(4 min) Ellen Corver (piano), Vesko Eschkenazy (violin), Larissa Goeneveld (cello) The Osiris Trio was formed in 1988. Since then, the trio has toured five continents and was twice given the honour to accompany Her Majesty The Queen of The Netherlands on an official state visit abroad. Over the past 19 years, the group has won a number of Dutch awards, including the 'Philip Morris Finest Selection' award and the Annie Bosboom Prijs. Since 2001 the Osiris Trio is supported by the Dutch Ministry of Culture. The trio's discography emcompasses two centuries of repertoirefor piano trio but also includes songcycles and the highly regardedrecording of Messiaens Quatuor pour la fin du temps that earned the highest rating (10 out of 10) in the Dutch music magazine Luister. The Dutch newspaper Het Parool concluded its review of a CD with recently written Dutch piano trios by stating "premium international quality." A brand new recording of the Tchaikovsky piano trio Op. 50 will be released in the fall of 2007. Diversity typifies the group's repertoire, which ranges from Haydn's oeuvre for piano trio to works by contemporary composers. The production of Klas Torstenssons "In großer Sehnsucht" even brought the trio on stage in a theatrical setting. The Dutch Society of Concerthall and Theatre Managers recently nominated the Osiris Trio in the category "most impressive performances in chamber music." Both Ellen Corver and Larissa Groeneveld hold teaching positions at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. In 2005 violinist Vesko Eschkenazy, concertmaster of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam since 2000, joined the trio and took the position of founding member Peter Brunt. Brunt however still supports the Osiris Trio in its educational and theatrical activities and in running its own chamber music festival. Recent tours were made to the United States, Hawai, Indonesia, Sweden and France. In June 2007, the trio has established its own chamber music festival in the beautiful rural estate of Oranjewoud in Friesland. Over 15 concerts in three days were completely sold out and were given highest praise by audiences and the press. The 2007-2008 season will bring the Osiris Trio among major venues in The Netherlands to the United States and Spain. (Source: http://www.osiristrio.com/ ) |

Romeo & Juliet

(12min) This video is an excerpt from a film that is part of a CD & DVD production that will be released in may 2008 on Cobra Records. The Dutch based orchestra Holland Symfonia and Conductor Otto Tausk perform a large selection of Prokofievs dramatic score: Romeo & Juliet - op.64 The ballet was composed in 1935 and 1936 as commissioned by the Kirov Ballet, with a happy ending, but was never publicly mounted, partly due to increased fear and caution in the musical and theatrical community in the aftermath of the two notorious Pravda editorials criticizing Shostakovich and other degenerate modernists. Prokofiev's efforts resulted in suites from the music being heard in Moscow and the United States, but the produced ballet actually premiered in Brno, Czechoslovakia, on 30 December 1938. It is better known from the significantly revised version that was first presented at the Kirov in Leningrad on 11 January 1940, with choreography by Leonid Lavrovsky, to which Prokofiev objected. In 1962 John Cranko's choreography of Romeo and Juliet for the Stuttgart Ballet helped the company achieve a worldwide reputation; it had its American premiere in 1969. Chicago's Joffrey Ballet presented the first American production in the 1984-1985 season, including guest performances in New York City at the New York State Theater and in Washington, D.C. In 1965 a production that was choreographed by Sir Kenneth MacMillan for the Royal Ballet premiered at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in which Rudolph Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn brought new life to the characters, and Fonteyn, considered to be near retirement, embarked upon a rejuvenated career. Peter Martins made Romeo + Juliet on New York City Ballet to the Prokofiev music in 2007. In July 2008, with the blessing of the Prokofiev family and permission from the Russian State Archive, the original Prokofiev score will finally have its world premiere, as the composer intended. Mark Morris has been chosen to direct the production and the Mark Morris Dance Group will premiere it at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College. The production will then tour the world for two years. (Source: Wikipedia) |
